August. Flip!

I don’t know where this year’s going. Definitely know how fast it’s going though! I’m starting to question the viability of this site (again!). It’s just starting to really bum me out because it’s never updated. Anyway… soon there’ll be lots to blog about again, because…

Today marks 3 weeks until the next child arrives. Gasp. Our soon-to-be-met daughter is looking great, and I’m really excited at the prospect – but can report a completely different experience to the expectation of Jamie. Things have been so freakin’ crazy-busy that I’m sad to admit how this has largely just been going on in the background. Jan’s been a real legend, coping with the tummy and the boy very capably. Unless the little missus chooses an earlier arrival, we’re expecting to see her on the 20th!

Jamie is kicking ass. His words are starting to pour out. Pretty amusing has been his taking notice of a man in the window of a toy shop with a big spider on his shirt. Jamie points out – “Spider”… then a pause, then his customary gender-statement “man”. We’re like “YES! Spiderman!”. So now this big joke at the way everything is about “Spider……Man”. Of course, soon to follow was “Bat……Man”. The PC desktop is now understandably superhero-themed!

Since such a long time has passed, it may be news that he’s now wearing glasses. In the space of 1 week his perfect eyes suddenly developed a squint, which on account of the rapidity, we had checked out by a ophthalmologist and then a neurologist. So an MRI later, his eyes were measured to be needing corrective lenses – requiring glasses for a trial period. This has completely sorted the squint out – but only while the glasses are on. The reasons are a little complicated, and we understand it, but it’s not really ‘resolved’ and we’re still both a little bleak that we don’t have ‘action steps’ to follow.

Anyway – he’s completely happy wearing them – not sure if they are having a difference since he ‘sees’ perfectly with or without. But he’s happy. Only thing that counts eh?

And without the details, my new job is going well. It’s been a dramatic change to adapt to, but so far so good. Traffic to town is loathsome, and the impact it’s having on homelife has been quiet substantial… but everything has a cost.

Last point – house is basically off the market. We came. We showhoused (12 times). We made another plan. While the market is stalemated, I think we’ll make do with things as they are. No immediate rush anymore since we’ve converted the study to a new bedroom, and the PC has been relegated to a new corner-desk in the lounge. Since the wood for the desk cost less than R200, and moving house would have been around R400k, I consider it to have been a fairly thrifty alternative – more than 2000 times cheaper!

Last thing to report – we’ve whizzed past Jan’s birthday. It was a workday for both of us, so it pretty much just disappeared into the ether, but she’s slightly more bejeweled than she was before, and I hope that it makes up for what was otherwise a bit nondescript. Congratulations Jan – HAPPY BIRTHDAY to you!
