The truth encrusted third verse
As time goes by I probably will
Meet a girl and fall in love
Then I’ll get married have a wife and a child
And they’ll be my turtle doves.
But until then I’ll be a bachelor boy and that’s the way I’ll stay,
Happy to be a bachelor boy,
Until my dyin’ day.
Oh well Gav, guess that’s the way it’s going then eh? Considering your confession to me several years ago that you’d resigned yourself to being a bachelor, I guess this is a rather fitting song. Hope you enjoyed the grueling but completely rewarding Chapman’s Peak hike – all 13.5 km of it. I guess we could have wished for a cooler day, but what fun would there be in not having been half-baked alive.
As a sidenote, it must be pointed out that Gavin himself chose to hike in jeans and a black t-shirt. It was not part of any cruel punishment or best-man inflicted evil.

It was an great hike with some of the most awesome views (as seen in the pics above). As Noel stated, “….Chapman’s apparently has the best view in Cape Town…” – Agreed!
To Big Gav: You survived the hike in your jean pant and black tee, marriage should be a walk in the park (compared to a walk to Chapman’s peak… he he). All the best with the wedding this weekend!

It WAS a great hike indeed! Thanks Noel for organising the perfect bachelors party. And although it was strenuous (I would be lying if I pretended that it wasn’t!), it was definitely worth the view from the top of Chapman’s peak. And after a hike like that, there is nothing like a cold bear in one hand and a boerewors roll in another.
Thanks to all the guys that were able to come and share in this memorable day with me!
