The truth encrusted third verse

As time goes by I probably will
Meet a girl and fall in love
Then I’ll get married have a wife and a child
And they’ll be my turtle doves.
But until then I’ll be a bachelor boy and that’s the way I’ll stay,
Happy to be a bachelor boy,
Until my dyin’ day.

Oh well Gav, guess that’s the way it’s going then eh? Considering your confession to me several years ago that you’d resigned yourself to being a bachelor, I guess this is a rather fitting song. Hope you enjoyed the grueling but completely rewarding Chapman’s Peak hike – all 13.5 km of it. I guess we could have wished for a cooler day, but what fun would there be in not having been half-baked alive.

As a sidenote, it must be pointed out that Gavin himself chose to hike in jeans and a black t-shirt. It was not part of any cruel punishment or best-man inflicted evil.

The league of extraordinary gentlemen

Tada! Jamie turned 1 year old today, and was with much joyous celebration inducted into the special League of Extraordinary Gentlemen – defined by me as those lucky young individuals who own an inimitable Black PrimaToy Motorbike.
This has to be the defining toy of our generation, and it was with much fanfare that Jan and I presented him with his vehicle.

By our guess, he’s not long away from walking, so it’s probably well timed.

Jambo's Bike

Anycase, this morning was the usual mad rush to work, so we’re both looking forward to spending some time with him tonight. Some folks will be around for cake and goodies, and it promises to be a dieter’s apocalypse!

Update: Well, the folks kept coming! Was a busy evening, but very enjoyable. Thanks to all who made an effort to share the day, and also to those who brought something or other for Jamie – very appreciated.

On a far more subdued note, and in stark contrast to the mirth of the day, his heart-surgery was booked today. He’ll be in Christian Barnard on the 11th April, for his open-heart surgery on the morning of the 12th. Predictably this is very hard to swallow, and an unwelcome distraction to just about everything. If this comes as a complete surprise, visit this to find out more about his AVSD.
