Jacobsbaai, round two of two
In what has become somewhat of an annual tradition, my mom-in-law treated the families to a weekend away to celebrate her birthday. Where we’d usually have gone up to Betty’s Bay, we ventured to the West Coast, to the same place we’d visited a few months ago.
Unfortunately marred by what can only have been described as the WORST hospitality imaginable (after which I am advising people NOT to visit Swartriet), the weekend certainly took on a different flavour to last time, but the scenery, nature and wildness of the West Coast were still fantastic. Oh. Except the wind blew. Relentlessly. Unceasingly. Maniacally.
Highlights included a few great walks, including Jamie’s first experience of sand-between-the-toes. The kite made a few mad swipes of the beach, the R/C truck left kilometers of tire-tracks, and apart from that we spent a disproportionate amount of time playing Settlers.
I guess, for me, the largest highlight was the fact that (middle-brother) Adin is down, and it’s been great to finally introduce Jamie to his other uncle and to watch the chemistry as they get to know each other. He’s down for another week or two, and I look forward to a few more tots of the Scottish Whiskey…
Happy Birthday Beth – thanks for the weekend!
