Heli-fever

Yip. I’ve got it. Again.
I haven’t flown my heli since 6th March. The day before that, I’d done my first (long overdue) loops and rolls – in an effort to have something cool to remember if I went through a Jamie-related drought. Well, that drought is now officially desert-dry, and no longer can I remember clearly what flying is like. Of course, the internet is littered with amazing Americans who can defy gravity – and being the browser I am, I discover videos which do nothing to quell my desire to fly.

I’m aching! Yearning! Desperate! I WILL FLY THIS WEEKEND.
(ps: the creepy is again broken)

Six weeks tomorrow!

Hey everyone,

I’m six weeks tomorrow! I’ve had a really busy weekend with my folks carting me around everywhere with them, so I spent a decent amount of it sleeping, but I still gave them a hard time once or twice. Especially on Friday when they dragged me off for milkshakes in Noordhoek, but then let me get too cold and didn’t even serve me any. Well. Not the real-deal at any rate. For some reason they think the only thing I ever want is Mom’s milk!

Let’s see… what else did I get up to. I think I’m starting to figure out this whole smiling thing. I can’t quite get my lips to curl up yet, but I think they’re getting all excited. I better keep practicing because they really seem keen for me to give them some crazy grin or something… Clots. Especially my dad!

I also think they’re starting to figure me out a bit. They don’t seem quite as stressed anymore, but I still think they could be doing more to keep me happy. I mean… a PSP or something wouldn’t hurt, and then they could do their dishes or gardening or whatever they want to be doing? I’ll keep you posted.

Oh… and cool news is that I’ve got a new friend. He’s only a few hours old at the moment, but Brennan Grant popped out his mom earlier today, so hopefully we’ll get to hang sometime soon. Maybe call up Simon “the settler” Oosthuysen and we can catch a movie or something.

Anyway – as I wrote in my subject, I’m 6 weeks tomorrow. Cool. Another 17 years, 10 and a half months and I can get my drivers licence… AWESOME!

…of microwaves and glass-lining…

And there goes a nice long weekend. Happy Easter everyone, may the significance last longer than the chocolate! Jan and I spent most of it getting up to the usual social antics. Jamie is one well-travelled young lad after visiting Noordhoek, Muizenberg, St James, Kommetjie and several other spots during the many trips. It’s not quite a picnic yet – taking him out and all – but it’s getting easier and he’s a little less niggly. A LITTLE.

Sidetrack: On a somewhat related but slightly less relevant note: My folks really need to join the space-age and get a microwave. Really. NEED to. To warm up quiches. If nothing else.

I also didn’t fly my heli. I didn’t get to finish the kitchen cornices. I didn’t finish the extractor vent, and I didn’t do anything in the garden. The creepy-crawly is still bust, so the pool is looking a little haggard, but it’s not too bad.

However, I did get to drive the Wild Dagger around. I decided I needed to lube the inside of the motors to stop some serious friction. It certainly got pretty wild when the Q20 I was blasting inside the spinning motors came out the other side on fire. I’m curious to know whether I’ve glass-lined the things, but the friction seemed to go. The dagger is starting to get a bit long in the tooth, with bits falling off and needing constant help. Although it still rockets around, so all is not lost. I also spent a fair amount of time fiddling with the new camera, and so far so good. The wait may have been worth it after all…

I also haven’t read anything lately (started DUNE a few weeks ago…), haven’t watched anything particularly interesting recently (other than 24…), and in general feel like things are moving p-r-e-t-t-y slowly. So, as blogs go – this has to rate as one of the more corpse-like out on the web, but at least it indicates one thing: We’re still alive, and we’re still kicking. It.

Time is of the absence…

Too true. So I haven’t done anything here for a week. Hardly surprising though. In between lengthy crying spells (that would be 5 week old mini-awesome, not me), broken pool creepy-crawlies, an entropic garden, intricate Settling on Catan (of which ours is eagerly anticipated!) and the arrival of my new Canon MiniDV toy… where would I have found the time?

Yip. Things are not as they were. One truth about having a kid is that life changes. It doesn’t end, but it certainly takes a pretty big leap towards something completely different – the major difference for me having been a complete hobby-standstill.
Oh. And being awake regularly between 2am and 5am. That’s also quite new. And never having the time to lurk. Also quite an unwelcome novelty…

So as I quest for excellence as a father who can perform fancy heli tricks, competently edit DV feature films, create musical vistas, cook up the proverbial storm and avoid getting to ambitious in any other fields – I say solongandgoodnight. I’m sure I’ll be awake before you tomorrow!

Food glorious food!

Just been to the clinic now, and I’m weighing in at a healthy 3.7kg again, which means I’ve been eating enough to reach my birth weight. I’ve also grown taller now, so at 57cm I’ve put on 5cm in the last 4 weeks. I still scream my head off most of the time because of these bl*#$y winds which my folks can’t seem to get out of me, but I think they’re doing their best. Still… a little crying never hurt anyone!

I’ll write some more next time my dad goes out and leaves the modem on. I still haven’t figured out how to dialup…

Captain Awesome arrives…

Hi minions ;)

Well, this blogging concept has virtually got dust and cobwebs on by now, but I’ve finally come to the party. Time will tell how often I get here, but it’s the thought that counts eh?

See you round!
